Project Summary
In 2024, Aquatic Engineering Canada was contacted by the Crestmont HOA, a private community located on the outskirts of Calgary, AB, to help them select and install a new floating fountain for their 5-acre pond. This pond is a vital part of the community, with a beautiful walking trail around it for residents to enjoy. The community wanted a visually impressive feature that would enhance the neighbourhood's aesthetics and serve as a focal point for residents.
After evaluating the pond size, design goals, and budget, AEC recommended a 5 HP Kasco Marine floating fountain with a premium nozzle to maximize the spray pattern. The premium nozzle produces an impressive display reaching 28 feet high and 64 feet wide. In the summer of 2025, AEC successfully completed the installation of this fountain, which the community has welcomed.

Methods

Recomemnded a 5 HP fountain with a premium high-display nozzle to meet community goals and budget.

Coordinated with the HOA manager, ATCO, and the electrician throughout planning.

Install the fountain using a small boat, minimizing shoreline disturbances and community disruption.

A bird sweep was conducted in the area where the boat was launched to esnure we would not disturb birds and wildlife.

Position and anchor the fountain in the location agreed upon in the design plans.
Challenges

Coordination between multiple parties (HOA manager, ATCO utility locators, third-party electrician), was needed to make sure the installation was safe, compliant, and efficient.

The presence of a high-pressure gas line near the electrical trench path required extra locates and approvals.

Limited access to the pond made launching the boat more challenging.

Planned Solutions
To ensure a seamless installation, AEC:

Coordinated all utility and safety requirements before trenching began.

Used a lightweight boat for minimal impact on homes and park areas.

Completed a bird sweep in the area to make sure our work would not affect the bird or wildlife population. Our ons-ite work was also completed quickly to avoid prolonged distrurbance in the community.
Results

Residents and the HOA members gave expressed high satisfaction with the fountain.
